What is in e-liquid?
Posted by Fogfathers Admin on
An e-liquid is the substance that when heated via your electronic cigarette device, vaporises to create the vapour that you inhale. A typical e-liquid is made up of 4 types of ingredients, these are VG(Vegetable Glycerine), PG(Propylene Glycol), liquid nicotine(Not Required) & flavour concentrates. The amount of VG/PG is variable however modern e-liquid manufacturers tend to go with a 70%VG/30%PG ratio in order to achieve an even balance of flavour & cloud production, you will find most of the juices we sell here at Fogfathers contain this ratio blend.
The e-liquid industry has blown up over the years as the number of vapers across the world continues to rise exponentially, this has given the opportunity for new e-liquid companies to blossom and ultimately give us a huge range of vape juice to choose from. Vapour should not be mistaken as a form of smoke as they are two separate entities, smoke is the result of burning where as vapour is the result of heating. Lets take a little look at the specific ingredients that are in e-liquids:
- Vegetable Glycerin – VG is generally used in food items, usually to preserve a product or to sweeten a product due to its naturally sweet taste. A heavier ratio of VG will result in more cloud production and hence this is popular amongst ‘cloud chasing’ vapers.
- Propylene Gylcol – PG is a thinner organic compound when compared to VG, PG generally carries the flavour within e-liquids and doesn’t produce a large amount of vapour, it is also odourless. PG is used in many household products such as toothpaste and various foods, it is proven to be safe with no adverse effects.
- Nicotine – Nicotine is not a necessity in e-liquids, you can easily obtain nicotine free e-liquids. With e-liquids that contain nicotine, the strength varies depending on the dose you desire. Nicotine for e-liquids can be derived from a variety of sources, although it is usually naturally extracted from tobacco plants. This type of nicotine, with respect to its use in e-liquids is accepted to be much safer than tobacco in cigarettes as it isn’t burned and therefore most of the carcinogens produced when burning tobacco isn’t present here.
- Flavourings – The flavour of your chosen e-liquid is derived from the flavour concentrates used. Generally e-liquid flavour concentrates coming in PG form, this allows them to carry a more potent flavour and thus increase the quality of the end product.
